Activities have resumed at the Spazio 3R workshop in Macherio, in the province of Monza and Brianza, as part of the project “Insieme per ricucire i legami di comunità” (“Together to Reweave Community Ties”), carried out in collaboration with Cooperativa La Grande Casa and supported by Fondazione Cariplo and Fondazione della Comunità Monza e Brianza. Here is an overview of the latest developments from the past few years:

Learning New Skills and Discovering Tailoring Techniques
October marked the reinstitution of tailoring activities at the Macherio workshop. The basic training module, which first began last May, resumed a few weeks ago. “The return of the course after the summer break has been very positive,” explains Ilaria, the course instructor. “We now have three new participants joining the five women already enrolled, and one of them has already become a co-working tutor.”
The 120-hour basic course is now nearing completion and will soon be followed by an advanced module. This month, participants focused on creating a personalized skirt pattern based on their individual measurements and learning how to construct a kimono-style sleeve. “The goals are to learn the basic techniques of sewing and develop a passion for an activity that allows us to reinvent and repair the clothes we already have, as well as create useful everyday items,” Ilaria explains. “The project also offers an opportunity to explore potential employment paths in tailoring. The workshop is equipped with professional machinery and tools, in addition to domestic sewing machines.”
Co-Working as a Space to Create Together

A new addition this season is the co-working space for course participants, held on Wednesday afternoons and Friday mornings in a peer-to-peer format. These sessions provide time in the workshop to develop projects, complete unfinished work, or experiment with new techniques such as crochet. “Creative ideas intertwine like the threads of our crochet hooks and needles, giving life to something unique,” shares Anastasia, the course pedagogue and tutor. “Time passes quickly together. We listen, chat, laugh, but our hands never stop working.”
Opening to the Community: Workshops for Adults and Children
In addition to being a tailoring workshop and training center, the space is increasingly opening up to the wider community. Open co-working sessions are now available to everyone, encouraging exchange with local residents and strengthening ties within the area. The first free workshops for adults and children have begun, offering an introduction to sewing and the opportunity to create small projects together with our professionals.
