Faith: An Internship that Opens New Opportunities

Faith is a 23-year-old Nigerian woman currently completing a social inclusion internship with us as part of the PUOI PLUS program in collaboration with Mestieri Lombardia. At first glance, she may seem shy, but over these months in the workshop, her desire to learn has never been lacking.

A Project for Integration

The PUOI PLUS project, in which Faith is participating, aims, as Edoardo from Mestieri Lombardia explains, “to promote the socio-professional integration of vulnerable migrants, with particular attention to those benefiting from international or temporary protection, victims of trafficking, or former unaccompanied foreign minors.” The goal is to improve employability through active labor policies, training programs, and six-month paid internships.

Even before arriving in Italy, Faith had experience in tailoring. She has always had a strong passion for sewing, but thanks to her internship at Spazio 3R she is refining techniques she did not previously know and learning the importance of specific tailoring processes. “I would like to keep learning more, improving myself, and discovering new techniques,” Faith shares.

An Opportunity to Tailor at Spazio 3R

At Spazio 3R, Faith has actively contributed to workshop activities over the past months. She has discovered the importance of ironing in garment construction, skillfully used the overlock machine, and gained greater confidence with the straight stitch sewing machine. “Manual work has both educational and motivational value,” Edoardo explains. “It allows individuals to physically see the results of their work, strengthening confidence in their abilities. It is also an opportunity to rediscover crafts associated with the past and reinterpret them in a contemporary way, with strong social and cultural value.”

Spazio 3R is an ideal place for this kind of journey, where craftsmanship intertwines with innovation, and where a collaborative environment fosters both personal and professional growth. “Spazio 3R offers the opportunity to acquire professional skills in the textile sector, but also to develop soft skills such as teamwork, precision, and creativity,” Edoardo concludes.

“With my colleagues I feel very comfortable. They are teaching me so much, and through work I am also improving my Italian,” Faith explains. At the beginning of her internship, she struggled to understand instructions. Now, however, she is opening up more and more, thanks to language development. She is gaining autonomy and strengthening her self-confidence.

“Working here gives me great joy,” Faith concludes. Edoardo affirms, “thanks to this experience, Faith will have greater opportunities to find long-term employment.”
