After the summer break, we could not miss a moment to restart our community activities in the tailoring workshop. Our collaboration with Soroptimist Club Milano alla Scala is a well-established partnership that has grown even stronger through a shared experience in the workshop and a communal lunch together.

A Workshop Experience

Members of one of Milan’s historic clubs stepped into the world of tailoring: on this early September morning, the members of Soroptimist Club Milano alla Scala took part in a hands-on workshop alongside our seamstresses. On this special occasion, we wanted to create something more than a simple visit, a true moment of collaboration in the workshop. “The meeting between Spazio 3R and Soroptimist Club Milano alla Scala celebrates female collaboration: the beauty of rediscovering a space for connection, dialogue, and shared work among women,” says Chiara, President of Spazio 3R. “Different women, each with her own story, life stories that, on this morning, intertwined first in the workshop and then over a shared lunch.” Francesca Ricci, President of Soroptimist, adds: “From our first meeting in 2023, a collaboration has grown through several projects: from job-placement scholarships for the women of Spazio 3R, to tailoring workshops, to financial education initiatives.”

Building Bridges Through Tailoring

Some participants had sewn before and were already experienced, while for others it was an opportunity to discover this craft for the first time. “Our seamstresses always truly enjoy these workshops. They are used to being welcoming and communicate through the language of tailoring, which goes beyond any boundary,” Chiara continues. “With our workshop, we were able to experience firsthand, literally, how tailoring can become a tool to create new professional opportunities,” says Francesca Ricci, President of the Club. She adds: “It was both a new and an ancient experience: new because we met young and skilled seamstresses who have gained autonomy through their work; ancient because, in sewing, each of us remembered lessons from childhood passed down by grandmothers or aunts.”

This morning celebrated an encounter between generations and a long-standing, solid friendship between these two organizations. “The convivial moment following the workshop was yet another opportunity for sharing and dialogue,” Francesca concludes.
